The golf that makes Founders Bridge a golf community isn't just another course. It is, in fact, the statewide home for golf in Virginia—the Virginia State Golf Association Golf Center—which includes not only the 18-hole championship course Independence, but also a learning course, clubhouse, and museum. The VSGA spent 15 years developing its plans for this Center and then choosing a site—settling finally on Founders Bridge, using land donated by our community. As a result, one of the best golf facilities in the nation is literally out the back door for many of our residents.

27 Holes to Play
You might think that 18 holes are enough, especially when they are the 18 holes of Independence, the Tom Fazio-designed championship course and showpiece of the VSGA Golf Center. But as Virginia's home for golf, the Golf Center has a mission that includes education and training, and so in addition to Independence you'll also find a 9-hole, par-3 course designed for young players learning the game.

A Club & Museum to Visit
When you're billed as Virginia's home for golf, your golf club had better be more than a pro shop and a grill. Rest assured, the Independence Golf Club rises to the challenge. A 20,000-square-foot, Jeffersonian-manor-style clubhouse, the Independence Golf Club is designed to be consistent with the manor homes of Virginia's rich architectural history, featuring many of the elements found in Monticello and Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson's two most famous residences. Inside the central building you'll find the new VSGA Museum, designed to tell stories of Virginia and its golfing tradition, as well as private office areas for the staff and a teaching/lecture hall for large group education discussions. But don't worry—the basics haven't been forgotten. The golf shop at the Independence Golf Club offers a wide range of golf equipment and the latest in retail fashion, as well as expert clubfitting services. And the Charles House Bar & Grill so surpasses the ordinary golf grill, it deserves a paragraph of its own (read on).

Culinary Expertise to Enjoy
Golf may not be your game, but when you live at Founders Bridge you may still find yourself savoring the proximity of the Independence Golf Club. That's because the clubhouse's Charles House Bar & Grill features not only salads, appetizers, and sandwiches, but a diverse menu of truly delectable entrées. And though you'll no doubt be impressed by the atmosphere and décor—featuring a coffered ceiling, dark wood round tables, and comfortable leather chairs—you will have to come by to enjoy one of the many extraordinary meals.
